Fire Safety
Fire Safety Plan: Fire Safety Planning is an important component of fire safety. The Fire Safety Plan Booklet (click) that the Board published is one important element for fire safety planning for our condominium complex.
Please familiarize yourself with the Fire Safety Plan Booklet. Fire Alarms (audio and visual): Located in the Bedrooms of each unit and in Hallways. Fire Alarm TESTING: Fire Alarms are tested on the second Tuesday of each month, at 11:00 a.m. Notice of the testing is posted in the elevators of each building. Fire Extinguishers (common property): Fire Extinguishers are located at the ends of each hallway. These Fire Extinguishers are checked on a monthly basis. Please familiarize yourself with the location of the extinguisher closest to your unit. Fire Extinguishers (within your unit): The Board recommends that all residents have on hand, and stored well away from any potential sources of flame or fire, a fire extinguisher certified for multi-class fires such as a Classes A, B & C; the extinguisher should be of 5 pounds minimum. A fire extinguisher is a contingency in the event of a small fire within a unit and must always be easy to reach. Remember to check your fire extinguishers at least once a year. Replace a fire extinguisher that is 10 years or older. Fire Sprinkler Suppression System: Sprinklers are located throughout each Unit, in addition to the hallways and common property areas. The condominium makes available protective cages for the sprinkler heads if there is a danger that the head can be accidentally hit and therefore possibly activated. The Board also will occasionally organize residential training for sprinkler head shut off and water damage prevention for this system. If you are interested, kindly contact us using the 'CONTACT US' form that appears in the main menu of this website. Fire Prevention: You can help to ensure that Crossbow is not exposed to undue risk. Please ensure no combustible materials (paint, gasoline, oil) are stored in Storage Lockers. Propane Bottles must never be brought into the building (see By-Law 68-a-x). Fire Department Annual Inspections: An approved and licensed contractor performs an annual check of all fire and safety equipment. FireSmart Program: - exterior of building: Crossbow Point supports the principles of Alberta's FireSmart program. Residents have taken action to provide additional protection from forest fires by removing combustible ground cover around the perimeter of buildings. - cigarettes: The Board reminds residents and visitors to NOT THROW CIGARETTES AND MATCHES OFF OF BALCONIES AND DECKS -- these items must be disposed of in a safe manner. Fire Emergency Plan: Each Unit owner/resident should complete their own fire response plan -- what to do in the event of a fire in their Unit or in the Building. The Fire Safety Plan (see above) will be a helpful guide for such an endeavor. Please note the link to the Fire Building Evacuation Route Plan and the Evacuation Meeting Place including the Muster Point Fire Drills: Crossbow intends to conduct full building evacuation fire drills annually. These will take place on a weekend and all units will receive advance notice, including instructions and the evacuation plan and meeting place (Muster Point). Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines. |
