Policies and Procedures/Part 4: Other Matters
Balconies and Decks
Each resident is required to maintain their patio or balcony area in a reasonable manner and keep it free of debris, as per the condominium By-Laws.
• The condominium By-Laws prohibit the following from being on the unit balconies:
– laundry or clothes lines
– artificial plants
– bikes or recreational equipment
– signs, flags, or advertising of any sort, including for sale signs
– large items that are not considered to be patio furniture
• Patio furniture and related small storage containers (up to 24” in height) are permitted.
• Planters are not permitted to be hung on balconies, nor are planters and any other items permitted to be attached to the railings or outside wall as these are exclusive use 'common property' portions of the condominium.
• As a courtesy to neighbors on lower floors, dust and debris on balconies is to be swept
up and disposed of in the garbage. Similarly, rugs and like articles are not to be cleaned or
shaken into the air on the balconies. Please take extreme care when clearing ice and snow from your balcony to reduce the possibility of injury to someone below.
• Residents are not permitted to place screws, hooks or similar fasteners into the walls or
wood of the outside surface of the balcony.
• The covering on the balcony floor is sealed material and must not be punctured. Should
accidental puncture occur, kindly contact PEKA to arrange for appropriate repair before
additional damage to the underlying flooring occurs as a result of moisture infiltration. Accidents can happen and you will normally NOT be charged for the cost of preventative repairs.
• Open flames, including propane or gas heaters, are not permitted.
• Satellite dishes are not permitted to be installed on any outside surfaces, including
balconies.
DO NOT THROW CIGARETTES OFF OF BALCONIES AND DECKS.
